EMPOWERING WOMEN TRANSFORMING LIVES
RISE Uganda is a Christ-centred initiative of Eagles Wings charity.
We support women in Mayuge, Uganda by providing entrepreneurial opportunities within a faith-filled community, empowering them to provide for their families and bring transformation to their communities.
THE STRUGGLE
In rural Uganda, women carry the majority of the burden and responsibility to care for their children and other dependents. In addition to their own, many women are also caring for neighbours and relatives’ children orphaned by HIV aids.
They do this despite being some of the most chronically under-resourced individuals on the planet. Most women in Mayuge are illiterate and lacking in skills, having never had the opportunity to go to school.
These women earn on average just £5 month. Many are reduced to begging.
Fathers are largely absent owing to stigmas and stereotypes concerning their role in the home, and many are little more than teenagers, themselves having grown up without fathers to guide them.
THE SOLUTION
It has been shown that the economic empowerment of women in poverty stricken areas, transforms and uplifts not just families but whole communities and is considered a vital step towards promoting national economic growth and eradicating extreme global poverty.
RISE Uganda empowers the lives of these precious women by:
*
Supporting them with business start-up finance and entrepreneurial opportunities, and by providing ongoing training, including book keeping and financial management so that they can set up and successfully run their own micro-enterprises, enabling them to support themselves and their families.

*
Inviting them to belong to a transformative Christ-centred faith-filled community of like-minded women where they can learn and grow together and find friendship, support, love and encouragement.

ABOUT RISE UGANDA
RISE Uganda was first conceived in 2020 by Derrick Kiirya and Sally Davidson. Initially we supported two families in Mayuge District, Uganda, close to Derrick's home in Jinja. Over the past 4 years we have grown to a faith-filled and Christ centred community of over 150 women, all hungry to know Jesus and meeting every Saturday for worship, bible study and prayer. Through regular giving and sponsorship we are enabling and empowering these ladies to learn skills so that they can build their own micro-enterprises and provide for their families.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
